I'm in full survival mode now. I just started reading the Army Survival manual (available free right here: http://www.ar15.com/content/manuals/FM21-76_SurvivalManual.pdf). I'm mostly using it for corporate survival...i'm pretty much going to go Colonel Kurtz soon. "I don't see any method at all"

So I have my 20 year High School reunion next week...crazy...everybody's on this facebook thingee...it's scary in a creepy sort of way.

Does anybody watch Heroes anymore? I thought the first season was flawed but occasionally great, so I had hopes. Last season was really disappointing, but I thought maybe the writer's strike screwed them a bit there so I was ready to give them a pass. But maaaaaaannnn, the season premiere was abysmal. They're real close to getting deleted from my DVR schedule.

I watched it. I thought it was a slight improvement over the half-season last year but still essentially sucky.  I basically just watch that show so I can rag on it with authority.

I'm probably not gonna keep up with it.

When the hell does Kitchen Nightmares come back?

Kitchen Nightmares had two episodes on last night, the third and fourth of the new year, now counting the recap episode. I didn't watch the ones from last night yet, but I've got 'em DVRed.

The thing that really pissed me off above all others was the change to Claire. The really cool/heroic thing about her has always been that yes, she can heal from anything, but she still has to get hurt first. That's almost moving, it's so heroic--a teenage girl who can, for example, save somebody by taking a bullet, but has to feel the bullet first. Now that she doesn't feel pain, it's not heroic at all, just an inconvenience.

Disturbing thought: Claire heals from everything right? Does that mean her hymen regenerates after every sexual encounter?

Other random complaints about Heroes:

• the whole bit about Suresh realizing that powers come from the adrenal glands was immediately followed by Syler uncovering Claire's powers from her brain... wha?
• the 45 second delay between the guy shooting a politician mid-speech and anyone attempting to look in his direction or follow him
• the clumsy Fly ripoffs (even without the insect aspect) in Suresh's powers
• the Claire vs. Syler confrontation was dumb, cheap, and poorly staged like something out of the fourth installment of a slasher movie

I could go on and on. That episode suuuuuuuuuuucked.
