Matt, I don't really care what that Palin woman actually believes in.  And I don't really know for sure if McBush and his advisers were intentionally pandering to the religious right when they chose her.  However, it is quite evident that she appeals a great deal to the religious right, and that they have adopted her as one of their own.  Maybe it's my militant atheism speaking, but I prefer corrupt clowns to representatives of the religious right.  And the gun shit bugs me: I just don't like "gun culture".  I don't like the whole "me vs. them" aspects of it, the paranoia that it entails and the fear of others that is implied in it.  I don't like the ultra-individualism of it, and the appeal to the worst parts of human psyche that goes with it.   I would like to live in a safer, less aggressive, less competitive, more egalitarian world, and I really don't see how having everyone going around armed is going to help achieve that.   I like watching westerns, but that doesn't mean I want to live in one.

I can't really criticise her on more substantial stuff, like foreign policy or economics... I don't know where she stands!  And I think that it is quite probable that she doesn't know either.  She doesn't strike me as someone who spends much time thinking about those kinds of questions... Or just thinking, in general. 

So yeah, those two things (the support of the religious right and the gun thing) are, to me, deal breakers.  As far as I'm concerned, that makes her worse than Biden.  

I agree with you regarding the character assassination stuff, and all of this attention on personal matters is rather silly.  But you got to admit that it is kind of fun seeing the repugs suffering from it, after all the shit they said about Obama's pastor and the swiftboat lies.
