four sevens sake

so the first disk of freak and geeks came from netflix yesterday...
watched the first episode...enjoyed...had only seen the end of that one before
also, somebody lent me 8 mile because i mentioned i dig Kim Bassinger. Anybody see this? Is it worth my time? What about if I only had one chance?
How about these: Winged Migration; When we were Kings; American Movie.
I've been into documentaries and those are ones on the list.

I haven't seen "8 Mile" yet, but I'm interested because Curtis Hanson directed and the 2 movies he did before that were "L.A. Confidential" and "Wonderboys," which I thought were very good (The more I see "Wonderboys" the more I think it might be a masterpiece.).
"Winged Migration" is totally a bunch of birds flying. If you liked "Microcosmos" you might like "WM"...but "Microcosmos" was better.
"When We Were Kings" is pretty good. Worthwhile.
"American Movie" is EXCELLENT! Get it now. Do it. I think Chris Smith is one of the most interesting "new" talents in American cinema. Period. If you ever get a chance to see his "American Job," do it...although it's really hard to find. You can order it on VHS directly from him, but it's never been released commercially. Man, is that a cool movie. Smith's new movie is short and sweet: "Home Movie," about eccentric people and their homes. Kind of a "Fast, Cheap, & Out of Control-Lite."
It's a shame. He was going to direct "American Splendor," but they gave him the boot because they wouldn't wait for him to finish his promotional stuff for "American Movie." Maybe you liked "A.S." as it was (and it wasn't bad), but it probably would have been a masterpiece if Smith had gotten to direct it.
File it under Apocraphal Cinema and let the retinal saucepan in your mind's eye cook you up a feast.

so maybe i'll wait for winged migration to come on the indie movie channel.
never saw wonderboys but have always wanted to. Actually taped it one time when they gave us free hbo for a the weekend but never watched it. Must put on "to watch" list.
I had a totally cool dream about one of my coworkers last night. So cool i felt guilty waking up next to my wife this morning. The thing was the dream was like in three parts. I had the first part and woke up...and when i fell back asleep the dream just continued...and then it happened again...it was wild.

saw spellbound
is hellhouse that one where they try to scare kids about abortion?
the picasso ones seems interesting. I remember seeing something on Dali once...he had some big clear inflatable bubble and all these dosed hippies are all in it and he's painting it...completly insane and brilliant.

BF, yeah, Mystery of Picasso is pretty cool. It's not biographical or anything. Basically you just watch him paint. You see the process. Directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, best known for his gut-churning suspense movies Wages of Fear and Diabolique.
I was going to recommend some cool Maysles Bros. docs to you, but Netflix doesn't have 'em. I'm going to keep thinking...
You're familiar with Errol Morris, right?

i got good spam today!
room island journey cake belief private in week reason talk level every hanging vessel position journey store great flower letter berry leather shake but rail special hammer cotton against impulse sad chemical street church ever trouble deep bucket far to word conscious cook small bucket start
V 1 . C . O . D . I . M death
that last line seems like something plasto would post. and it wouldn't make sense to me, but i'd be laughing anyway because it's plasto and he's funny. and the part with the buckets...well, y'all know who that reminds me of.
i just saw "american movie" a couple of weeks ago and i liked it a lot. it wasn't as laugh out loud funny as i thought it would be though. i saw a bit of "home movies"- it looked good, i wish i could have seen the whole thing.
speaking of "home movies", hey capn- i got 12 episodes on VCD and they rule!!! i should be getting more soon!!! i can burn you copies if you want!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
