Coming March 9th: our first kid. Matilda is just shy of 3 months pregnant now and her latest checkup Friday went well. So after talking it over this morning, we decided it was safe enough to start spreading the word.

Congrats to you and M______ ! It was really considerate of you to knock her up so that she wouldn't have to spend her last trimester dealing with summer heat. Way to go, bro.

Congratulations, Jeff!  And I warmly recommend you read this book.     And don't pay attention to all the bullshit advice you're probably going to get regarding child rearing.

At first, I thought today's thread title was a RIP for John Updike...

Actually, you can thank JSG for the title... After she waxed rhapsodic about Grace of My Heart, I ended up TIVOing it and watching it again the other day. In the movie, Illeana Douglas's character refers to the old school rabbit test for pregnancy. Then I heard "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith the other day and finally understood what the hell that "Can't catch me 'cause the rabbit done died" line was all about.

Thanks for the rec on the book. I've seen it around and will make it a point to pick up a copy.

Isaac Hayes also died today. Or was it yesterday?

Last night I watched the last Lone Wolf and Cub movie. The movie's theme song borrowed quite heavily from the theme song to Shaft.

It rained all day here yesterday and I was in a bummy (read: hangover depression) mood, as I mentioned. Bah. So just watched New York Doll, and then all of season 2 of Extras, which raised my spirits immensely. (As I also mentioned.)

Today, pulled some weeds from the front yard (not code!), got some groceries (just before the next torrential downpour hit...whew!), read a script for work, and made some grub for the week ahead: a curried tofu salad (I just substituted tofu in a cold chicken salad recipe) and an Italian/tomato lentil stew thingy adding some basil and oregano and swiss chard from my "garden" (i.e. the potted plants on my deck). Yummers.

And, you know, drinking.

I feel increasingly boring as the days go on... Maybe I'll do the NY Times crossword puzzle next.  nerd loser
