Referring back to my friend's assertion weeks ago that Colin Powell would be a good Obama VP, some pretty damn interesting poll numbers:

Referring back to my friend's assertion weeks ago that Colin Powell would be a good Obama VP, some pretty damn interesting poll numbers:
Here.
You have fully convinced me that a near majority of Obama supporters are as ignorant as any jackasses voting for McCain.
Colin Powell was an eager young participant in the destruction of Vietnam, approving in scorched earth policies targeting civilians that would be referred to as genocidal if carried out by official enemies. As an officer he helped suppress early Americal whistle-blowers warning of widespread war crimes in his unit. News of one of their abuses eventually became known as the My Lai Massacre.
Powell followed this by working in the Pentagon and in Nixon's White House. He soon graduated to the position of aide to Reagan's Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger as he ravaged Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras with the Dirty War, and meddled with Iran and Lebanon while cozying up to the Saudis and the Israeli hawks and eventually Saddam Hussein. He was instrumental in the Iran-Contra affair, working with the Pentagon to illegally transfer American missiles to Iran via Israel.
After securing a position as National Security Advisor to Reagan he argued for continued support of the Contras so as to undermine any sort of peace process in the region. Around the same period Powell was involved in the massive effort (Iraqgate) to arm Saddam Hussein, via third-party-transfers, to prevent Hussein's loss in the Iran-Iraq War (though Hussein began the war, the world's second largest oil reserves were in danger of falling under the control of the Islamic Revolution of Iran if he lost). Powell's involvement in the arming of both Iran and Iraq would go ignored during the Gulf War and its 2003 sequel as the liberal media could not keep themselves from short-stroking it every time Powell's name was mentioned. (ex. Beside my desk sits a dusty copy of a 1995 issue of Time where John F. Stacks asks, "COLIN POWELL FOR PRESIDENT?". The issue's focus is equally ludicrous praise for George Soros)
As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff he presided over the illegal assault on Panama which resulted in thousands of dead innocent civilians. What was no more than the arrest of a paid CIA asset (Manuel Noriega - who was also involved in the pipeline to the Contras) was rendered with disproportionate force that left perhaps three thousand dead civilians.
Powell was further lionized by the mainstream media in a popular, but perhaps entirely unnecessary (the U.S. was simultaneously approving of similar actions the world over) war in the Gulf, which was designed in part to erase the unfortunate "Vietnam Syndrome" that had plagued the Pentagon for a decade and a half. During this melee Powell easily out-hawked General Schwarzkopf, consciously sabotaging, at the behest of the Washington Hawks and President Bush Sr., a last minute intervention by Gorbachev that very well might have prevented the entire war and hundreds of thousands of deaths. Again he employed the Powell Doctrine which necessitates grisly casualty rates for the enemy and innocent civilians to prevent any casualties for "our guys".
Powell was again instrumental in the selling of a war in Iraq and lent his inexplicable bipartisan appeal to the effort to create the conditions for the illegal invasion of Iraq. While he did not fully endorse the plan which was enacted, he supported it and willingly LIED to the American people and the United Nations. And despite his mild reservations, Powell was no peacenik - he fully approved of plans to simply assassinate or otherwise remove Hussein in a coup and replace him with someone still willing to work with them (as Hussein did prior to the Gulf War). Regardless of this, he did carry through with his orders.
The criminal Powell then presided over the violent overthrow and kidnapping of Jean-Betrand Aristide in the reconquest of the slave rebellion that was never quite silenced. Did the heroic negro general lose sleep as thousands more Haitians were butchered and thousands upon thousands of political opponents to neoliberal economic policies in the third world were thrown into Haitian prisons?
I use the term "negro" because part of me believes that this is as simple as the explanation may be for Powell's seemingly inexplicable popularity amongst the so-called left. Did the cum-gargling praise ladled on Powell begin with the cautious politically correct overcompensation? "He's black...so, even though he is the military dude for these big bag Republican hawks that I hate with every fiber of my being, he has to be not as bad because he's got, like, darker skin and shit." The praise for Powell I see from Democrats is indistinguishable from that usually reserved for entertainers and celebrities, mindless "he's got cred." "Yeah, I don't like Republicans, but Powell is okay in my book." and this unbelievably ignorant prattle about how he "was one of the first to quit the Dubya disaster. That may mean he has foresight." (actual quote from one recent Obama supporter)...
THE MAN IS A @#$@#$@#$@@@@ WAR CRIMINAL WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF LIVES, IF NOT MILLIONS ON HIS HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I guess what you're saying is that you're not all that into Powell?

It is not that I expect every single voter to be knowledgeable of the careers of generals when keeping abreast of politics is intensive enough as it is, but there is NO REASON for people being so ignorant that they could create some special designation for Powell in their head, excusing him from his associations. He did not work for Reagan-Bush-Bush Jr. by way of happenstance - that his career is forgiven so casually (and for what reason I have never seen explained - if it comes down to "charisma" I do believe the skin color aspect may figure greatly in it) is simply incredible. The phenomenon is so widespread that it can only be logically explained by the zealous promotion of Powell by the media as some form of dove in a general's uniform (doesn't happen, folks). So, no people do not have to be aware of Powell's undermining of Gorbachev's intervention in Iraq, but I simply cannot understand how people can justify this understanding of Powell as this Good Guy Along For The Ride With The Very Bad Guys. Four decades working for the most notorious and reviled administrations but "Colin Powell is different"
There is cum in my eye (or whatever).

I'm sad to see this Colin Powell thing gaining momentum. I'd hoped we'd seen the last of it.
Obama is ahead in the polls. There is no reason to compromise with a Republican running mate.

I don't know. Richardson helped quash a recount in his state in 2004, effectively giving Bush the win, and Richardson is heavily involved with Henry Kissinger (Kissinger McLarty Associates) and Homeland Security and the democracy promotion of American imperialist think tank Freedom House (connected to every horror of the Reagan years, the current board of trustees is packed with PNAC signatories). I do not trust him at all.
Of course, the people associated with Barack Obama surprises even me. His recently announced
Senior Working Group on National Security
is a veritable house of horrors:
* Secretary of State Madeleine Albright
* Senator David Boren, former Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
* Secretary of State Warren Christopher
* Greg Craig, former director of the State Department Office of Policy Planning
* Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig
* Representative Lee Hamilton, former Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee
* Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder
* Dr. Tony Lake, former National Security Advisor
* Senator Sam Nunn, former Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
* Secretary of Defense William Perry
* Dr. Susan Rice, former Assistant Secretary of State
* Representative Tim Roemer, 9/11 Commissioner
* Jim Steinberg, former Deputy National Security Advisor
These are very very bad people.
