I set it up so that video links automatically embed. This makes it about 10,000x easier for the less technically inclined to post videos. The downside, as you saw, is that it can sometimes mess up a link to a video that you did not want to embed.

Like this code:
Code:
The dawning of the [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tws9tRflO-E]Age of Aquarius[/url]?

Which gives you this:
Quote
The dawning of the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tws9tRflO-E" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/Tws9tRflO-E</a>?

The solution is to go to TinyURL and set up a different link to the same video and include that one in the url tag. Only takes a second and should produce the desired effect.

Like so:
Code:
The dawning of the [url=http://tinyurl.com/55p8fo]Age of Aquarius[/url]?

Which gives you this:
Quote
The dawning of the Age of Aquarius

Also. since people continue to post videos only to complain that it reads, "We're sorry, that video is no longer available" when they click play.

From time to time this is actually the case (that the video has been removed because of copyright infringement or miscellaneous offense), but usually it is because the holder of the account blocks embedding. This is most common amongst corporate accounts such a record labels and television channels and internet blogs.

Instead of copying the URL from your browser, go to the information window on the right of the screen:

One slot has the URL listed and the other says EMBED. The URL listed under URL will be the same as the one in the top of your browser, but get used to copying the URL from here anyway, as while you do this you can see if it is a protected video or not. Under EMBED is listed the code that you use to post the video in myspace, but if the video is protected it will simply read "Embedding disabled by request"

In such cases you will have to "snipurl" or "tinyurl" the URL so that the generally useful gadget that Jeff added to Crappity does not automatically attempt to embed the video for you, leaving a broken link that claims "We're sorry, that video is no longer available"
