Other fun recent ones...

 • May by Lucky McKee is pretty awesome, in its quirky way...
 • Teeth isn't precisely horror, but it sure will make you clutch your man parts in shivering fear...
 • Dog Soldiers is Neil (The Descent) Marshall's werewolf/war movie hybrid...
 • Cronos and The Devil's Backbone are worth seeing if you're not all caught up on Del Toro...
 • Slither was a fun Tremors-like horror-comedy...
 • Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon a mockumentary in which a camera crew follows around a guy aspiring to be the next slasher villain. Probably only rewarding for fans of the genre, but I liked it...
 • Feast isn't exactly good, but the Project Greenlight winner is gloriously trashy in a way that goes well with a six pack and pizza....

There's gotta be more, but that's what I've got for now.

Ooh, I forgot about the first Ginger Snaps. That should be on the list, too.

Also, it falls apart at the end, but Vacancy is better done than your average multiplex shocker. The director is the Hungarian behind Kontroll, the surreal thriller about Budapest subway inspectors. I'm not saying it's a good movie... but it's well put together, so where big budget horror goes, you could do worse. I hear similar stuff about The Strangers but haven't seen it.

The only trailer I can find for May is a trashy DVD trailer that really gives the wrong idea, so here, watch this clip instead:

That sounds like the exact same premise as a belgian movie called "C'est arrivé près de chez-vous"

I've seen that one, too, and I can understand why you'd say that. But while that one was a satire of how the media treats killers, Behind the Mask has more in common with Scream, as it's strictly a satire of slasher movie conventions.

If I was pitching it to Griffin Mill, I'd call it "Man Bites Dog meets Scream."

Thanks for the package!!   Fricking rocked it all weekend.    Even the stuff that I'd heard on myspace sounded totally fresh on actual (cranked) speakers.

Dragoon shouldn't be listened to on tiny computer speakers.

nuh uh.

Ginger Snaps was surprisingly entertaining (and Canadian) ...but Descent....enh...it would be brilliant if your viewing were limited to everything up until
you see the CGI gollums running around. The second half (three quarters?) of the film is standard/dreadful fare, in my opinion. I really can't stand an over-reliance on CGI cartoons, especially in horror films. I find it difficult to immerse myself in a hypothetical situation while watching people being chased by obvious blobs of ones and zeros.
Natural Born Killers is one I can never really sum up. It's overblown Stone stuff, but from a Tarantino script that definitely had some moments, even after being heavily rewritten.

It's like hearing a new RL Burnside song, but the only recording of it is by Blueshammer.

OMFG. Watch the guy on the bike. SRSLY! WTF

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/klteYv1Uv9A" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/klteYv1Uv9A</a>

Also: faking a heart attack in court does not work nearly as well in real life as in the movies.
