Thanks again for My Morning Jacket Evil Urges, Jeff.It is a very weird album. They really go out of their way to highlight the most unusual songs.
The title track has me won over, I admit it. I love the guitar line and his falsetto sounds awesome. He's kind of like Jeff Buckley. He has such a great voice it will cover for a lot of wrong impulses. The hoedown breakdown is pretty cool too.
"Touch Me I'm Going to Scream" Both parts are awesome. Beyond words.
Then things start to turn sour for me.
"Highly Suspicious"...that falsetto is one thing, but that crazy giggling? Almost reminds me of Beck when he still had a pulse.
"I'm Amazed" is a bland middle of the road song to me.
"Thank You Too" is even blander. It's a little too mellow AM gold for my taste. There's a bit of achy pull in some of the verses, but the chorus lays it on too thick...and that's even before the syrupy strings come in.
"Sec Walkin'" goes for the classic Nashvilley with James in Levon Helm mode. Too cute for me.
"Two Halves" is a fun time summer pop song that doesn't quite do it for me.
"Librarian" is pretty as hell. Just the acoustic guitar and the reverb. Lyrics could be better. His talent as a performer carries it.
"Look at You"...This album needs a kick in the ass and this isn't it. Pretty country song. Extremely boring. I think I've listened to this song less than any other.
"Aluminum Park" brings the full rock experience. Classic material.
"Remnants" is even better. Kicks total ass.
"Smokin' from Shootin'" has a cool hook to me. Slow boiler.
"Touch Me (pt 2)" Is even better than pt. 1. Epic way to end an album...and it probably makes sense that it's kind of a disco song.
