We ahem, obtained, a copy of The Happening and watched it just for curiosity's sake.

Yup, it's a piece of shit.

Shyamalan is still gifted in his visuals and use of sound, but the writing is atrocious, more so than in any film he's ever made. The dialogue is first-year film student bad and the plot, welll...  there are ginormous logic lapses and well...
Fucking plants kill everybody. For revenge for how we're treating the planet. For reals.
Even those who were able to swallow Signs and Lady in the Water will probably choke on this one.

And Mark Wahlberg is cast as a nerdy science teacher.

Cripes.

Did I mention that I watched Be Kind Rewind and I really loved it..?  Cause I did.

I was surprised to find it was sort of sweet.

You didn't like Science of Sleep, did you?

I never got around to renting it, though I have almost taken it out about a million times. I just read your single line review (from 2006) of it now and want to see it.

I was surprised that I enjoyed Be Kind Rewind as much as I did. I was even more surprised that it managed to be somewhat touching. I am not sure that was clear in my original post.

Somebody here didn't like it.  I thought it was you, but that was probably Mattist of me to assume that.   Wink

I'm the one. Intolerable movie. Felt canned and phony.

I tolerated it 3 times at the movie theater.

What's your appraisal of Be Kind Rewind?

I didn't see it.  I kinda hated Eternal Sunshine but that was mainly because of Jim Carrey.

Be Kind Rewind seemed, to me, to be Gondry trying to say "look, I'm not completely pretentious! I have a goofy side too".  And I like his goofy side.  BKR was like a combination of ZAPPED!,  Fat Albert, Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo, and I dunno.. all those movies about the little guy vs the establishment.
Really just loved it a lot.

interesting dynamic in that band, richie the lead singer, used to date jessica, the bassist, so it's always interesting with them; loren their drummer is very cool and eric the guitarist is a wild man....we had a ball at the melody inn, i remember being drunk and smoked with them outside in their van with this gigantic blow up bud bottle

richies new wife is his manager and theirs i believe, she used to be a big groupie and date the dude from Brian Jonestown Massacre, anton newcombe, the star of DIG.  There is a story where jessica the bassist throws a glass of whiskey at heidi his new wife at some bar they were playing.  His wife heidi, has a chapter in pamela des barres groupie book!

i like them they are nice and fun

I love Eternal Sunshine ...mostly for the story and Kate Winslet. I also enjoy Jim Carrey's performance as well as some of the suppurting cast, which is saying something because generally Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst and Elijah Wood annoy the piss out of me.

Yeah, I liked Eternal Sunshine, too, but Science of Sleep just made me want to punch somebody. About half of that was my distaste for Gael Garcia Bernal.

Haven't seen Be Kind Rewind yet, but is on the menu.

Y'all seen Human Nature? I dug that one.
