Alhambra looks amazingly beautifully swanktastic.

The way I usually describe it to people is that it runs headfirst past the limits of good taste, but does so in such a fearless fashion as to emerge kind of cool and classy anyway.

Magazine Street is awesome.  The French Quarter is awful.  There is a statue of Ignatius Reilly on Canal Street I simply must see and photograph.  Grillards and Grits is very filling for brunch.  Aztec Chocolate gelato is cold and delicious on a hot day.  Up In Smoke is the best smoke shop Kimmy or myself has ever seen.  Max is a very well behaved dog, whether on a road trip or not.  Laptops help on vacation a lot.  I enjoy crappity.

hey chad!!  the most fun you can have in the quarter is in this little bar on decatur. (same street as magazine, but on the quarter side of canal)  about 2 blocks past the house of blues, if you are walking from canal, there's a sign with a bull on it. i forget the name of the place.  but inside, you can get super drunk, super cheap, and ride a mechanical bull all night.  you will be bruised for days, and happy about it.  just sayin, it's a lotta fun....

Yeah, New Orleans must have really improved, now that they got rid of all those poor black folks.

Forgot to mention earlier, Carolyn Mark's hootenanny last night was awesome. (Kind of a mini-hootenanny, since Jim Bryson, and Hank & Lily weren't on this tour.) It was pretty much 4 or 5 Carolyn songs, then they all switched instruments (Carolyn over to piano, the drummer played mandolin, the guitarist on lap steel, etc.) and did some of Luther Wright's songs, then Jenny Whitely (along with her brother, Dan -- they've been doing bluegrass together for years).

During the break, Carolyn, Jenny and I drank white wine out of a tetra pack thingy in the back alley of the venue (we're classy dames, drinking white wine, obviously) even though I'd been drinking vodka all night, and continued to do so. (Hence uber-hangover today.) The second set was the same thing, but in reverse: Jenny up first, then Luther, then Carolyn. Sooooooooooooooo fun. They're swell folks.

my memmory is not as bad as i thought fuckan eh!  i did something right today
