Final episode of Sex and the City this week! Yes! And I didn't have to sit through a single episode. Yeah for me!

I done got me a new fence. I'd been talking about doing it since I moved in, and I finally just did it. It wasn't cheap, but it sure looks nice.

I feel a sense of pride lightly clouded by shame from seeing my name in all three categories of the crappity site.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that you didn't accomplish anything in your life.

I used to think it was Sex in the City too.  Lazy South mouths won't e-nun-ci-ate th' "and."

Thank yous to Caw for the moving tribute to JJ Jackson at the close of yesterday...

So he was like forty when MTV hired him?  Imagine that ever happening again.

I always liked it when he said, "The Burnah Tina Turnah!"

Okay...you ever rated a book or a cd or something at amazon.com...and then they give you recommendations based on that?

I do it occassionally and I don't know why I bother, because they've never once recommended something to me that I'd be interested that I didn't already know about.

Anyway, I was checking my recommendations the other day and I see they're suggesting this Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Book for me.  I'm like, "What the fuck?"  I click "why was this recommended" and they say it's because I enjoyed R. Crumb's "Life & Death Fritz the Cat." Huh

I mean, the SI swimsuit girls' asses and legs are way too skinny for R. Crumb's taste.

I guess I have nothing better to do than fight to keep this topic at the top of the stack.

Okay, so I'm checking out this Franz Ferdinand finally (lattice moment: my friend from New York who recommended them just called me)...

This is not a review.  I've only heard a few songs one time...They're very talented...but why does it seem that every new band I check out is doing this whole new-wave/punk-funk/disco/cbgb-whatever?  I mean, it was fun for a minute, but can we move on please?

A week from now after I give them a few fair spins, I may like it.  But that's not my point.

I guess what I'm really upset about is that it seems like the only new musical adventures that are satisfying me lately are when I check out old stuff that I haven't heard before.

And it's not like I'm closing myself off to new experiences.  I try new stuff and I try new stuff...but it's always that old historical thing that gets me excited.

It's like music up and died on me after 1997.  I mean, really.  It's like all my favorite bands either broke up after 1997 or went past their prime.

I never wanted to be that guy who got stuck in a nostalgia warp with music.  I always wanted to keep going forward with all art I'm passionate about, but I feel like I got lost with music somewhere along the way.

I don't want to live solely in the past: mine or anyone else's.

Hey, I know what you mean.  I feel the same way.

Soo... New bands I've been listening that don't follow the new wave/punk-funk/disco train:

I'm really digging Oneida's last one
I've been listening a lot to the Mermen (well they're not quite new but...)
Frog Eyes
Broadcast (if you like retro-futuristic music à la Stereolab)
Good old Califone, dog bless them
The Besnard Lakes (right now, in my opinion, the best band in Montreal, and they don't even have a label)

You are officially 'old'. Start digging.
