Is it just me or is no one giving the Spaniards any credit? What I mean is, the press (small and big) is dumping on Spain ousting their leader after the hit on Madrid. What the FUCK? Before the attack I knew he was getting turfed. So did the goddamned press. They knew that the overwhelming majority of the Spanish population was anti-War in Iraq and it looked like he was toast anyway. But no. We're supposed to believe the entire country just up and changed their votes in a simplistic knee-jerk fashion at the last minute 'cause there was an attack. How fucking insulting is that? Sure, some people probably did...it would certainly get most fence-sitting undecideds to vote against Aznar...and it most likely mobilized a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't have voted but...shit.

Tony Blair is finished and I've been saying that since he first decided to take it in the ass from Bush (uh..). But since England is going to get hit in a bad way by al Queda, does that mean the press will chalk that up as "Terror Decides Vote" as well? Goddamn!

And it's really ironic, 'cause an attack on mainland USA would be THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD for George W. Bush right now. That's the difference-Britain and Spain DON'T APPRECIATE THEIR CRAPPY LEADERS FOR GETTING INTO A WAR THAT WAS NOT THEIRS...unfortunately, nearsighted patriotism is an unbelievably massive force in American politics. The more Bush is attacked, the more the ignorant want to support him-"How dare non-American's criticize our President!".

i was aboot to turn off the teevee last night when i heard that courtney love was the guest on letterman, so of course i had to witness that train wreck.  shelley joined me and we both were recoiling in horror at her every twitch and howl and boob flash.  she is so far gone around the bend that it's almost a shame she didn't die a few years ago to at least spare little frances bean cobain the pain.

and after hogging the entire show with her antics, she also "performed" with her "band" of tarted up mannequin women who didn't seem familiar with their instruments or the song.  it was arguably the worst musical performance i have ever seen on a talk show.

The spaniards ousted the PP (their conservative party) mostly because Aznar (their prime minister) tried very hard to put the blame on the Basque separatists (the ETA), even though there wasn't any proof.  He basically lied!  You see he was afraid that people would indirectly hold him responsible if the bombings were in any way connected to Islamic fundamentalists.  He got what he deserved.

The funny thing is, if he had accepted things and honestly faced the music, taking responsibility for his policies, he might have been re-elected.   His party was, in spite of the Spanish people overwhelming opposition to the Iraq war, ahead in the voting intentions before the bombings.

You can see how it is in the interest of many spin-doctors to call the Spaniards chicken.  I mean, if people get in their heads that world leaders should get the boot because they have misled the public into accepting certain policies (WMDs in Iraq anyone?), what will the world come to?  So they distort the sequence of events to make people believe that the bombings have frightened the spaniards.  Spain has been living with a terrorist group (the ETA) that has killed about 800 people (mostly cops, soldiers and politicians) since the mid seventies.
