My friend Isabel and I walked to Kensington Market/Chinatown today, thinking we'd supplement the bootcamp stuff with some decent cardio. But we were walking so slow (cuz of the heat), we practically may as well have been standing.

Wait! Calories burned while standing for 2 hours = approx. 127. Calories burned by walking (2 mph) for 2 hours = 297.   nerd

Why do you count calories?  Who cares! I don't give a shit about calories.   A calorie is just the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1°C from a standard initial temperature, especially from 3.98°C, at 1 atmosphere pressure, nothing else.  And you are probably referring to kilocalories.

Dan, have you ever heard of a Montreal punk outfit named Wretched...something. The second word is a given name. One of the women who works in the supplements section is a musician-composer and I swear I recognized the name of her former band but cannot remember the name now. They released two albums and toured Canada...but I believe it was in the 80s..and you are bit older and...were not listening to Technotronic.

Nope, but I wasn't around in the 80's. I got here in late 1989, and I didn't pay much attention to the local scene for a few years, as I didn't feel "local".

Ok, the Obama bashing was clumsily moved to the political isles.  Sorry for the messy move: the original post got erased, but there's a copy of it in the thread.

By the way, I must say that I resent it a bit having to move things around like this.  Disagreement is a part of life, and as long as there are no insults, I'm not going to take it personally if people don't agree with me.  Since I have a strong contrarian streak, I might even enjoy it!

I wish you folks would cool off, and that you would become more like me.  Heck, the world would be a better place (specially for me) if everyone became more like me.

I'm going to fitness bootcamp (which I've now mentioned ad nauseum here), so part of the point is, yeah, to burn fat and tone my flabby (and/or non-existent) muscles, lower caloric/raise protein intake, etc.

I'm not dieting. Just trying to get in shape. The calorie-burning calculator I found was just about trying to see what good I've been doing. Wink

I haven't yet checked on burning-calories-through-gardening, but I know it's on their list of "activities"...

I've been out in the garden for a couple hours now... thinning and transplanting the tiger lillies down the side of the house, transplanting some raspberry bushes to make more room for the other tomato seedlings (and planting those), and planting some swiss chard I bought today. Oh, and I found some Thai basil, too, so added that to the planters o' herbs.

And, you know, drinking sangria. Yay!

And back out I go...

dragoon got together at 6 last night and went over our set for Bands Not Bombs.  It's kinda true what they say about having a shitty practice before a show.  cause we had shitty practice then a pretty good show. When we got there i ran into many co-workers and friends, all of who came up to me leading off the conversation with "I'm so wasted, man!"  I'm like 'yeah, that's what drinking  from a keg of PBR in the hot sun will do for you.'
But we had fun. Noyel, Navin and Noyel's date helped us load in and out. The show was kind of on the  church playground.  It was quite nice really. kate and Chad were there.
I'm fairly certain we were the oldest guys to play but everyone seemed to  dig it.  Kinda like 'wow! those old guys didn't suck at all the way I thought they would!'
Naw, I kid. It was nice to feel like part of a little event cause you could tell from the giddyness of some of the bands it was their first outdoor event. So cute.

We cut our set short slightly cause Bobby broke a string. but we went from starting with our mellow side (Impatient, Golden Hips, Forgive Forget)  because we followed a kind of jam band that were on the mellow side.  But since a young hardcore band was following we morphed our set into the hard rock and ended with our version of  Trusty's Unsnowplow.

After we were done the guitarist from the next band (while i breathe i hope) came up to me and excitedly pointed out we have the same SUNN head and he seemed amazed i was playing bass through it.  All I could thin to say was "... the sustain, it's like .." (nigel voice)  and he immediately shot back  " you could go and , go and 'ave a bite.."   never fails.

good show. I heard they raised over 7 grand by the time we left.

I ended the evening unceremoniously with 2 bean burritos then zonked out about 11;45.  good times.

Sounds like an awesome gig. Yay!
