Congrats on the cool gig, fbp! A lot of good bands you mentioned, but me personally, I don't think it could get much better than meeting Chuck D.

And JSG, while I understand why someone might not like The Hold Steady (that sing/shout/beatnik rant thing can be hard to swallow for some), I gotta say I enjoy 'em. And if nothing else, it's nice that they have on several occasions cited the Grifters as heroes.

And catching up from way back at the beginning of the thread: holy crap, what a cute 4 yr old.

Big hi, etc., to you, too, Jeff!

I think the same thing that people like about The Hold Steady is the thing I can't get into. To each his/her own, fo' sho'.

My friend Isabel and I walked to Kensington Market/Chinatown today, thinking we'd supplement the bootcamp stuff with some decent cardio. But we were walking so slow (cuz of the heat), we practically may as well have been standing.

Wait! Calories burned while standing for 2 hours = approx. 127. Calories burned by walking (2 mph) for 2 hours = 297.   nerd

I wonder if there's an estimate on calories burned for sitting at the computer drinking Sangria?

Calories burned for, say, 10 minutes of foreplay and 25 minutes of full-on intercourse? Only 107.

Huh.

You can test your fave physical activity here.

Like, um, billiards. Or driving. Or mopping.

Pilates (which I also sometimes do) is on there. But no yoga. Mopping and ironing and doing dishes, but no yoga?

Train of thought tracking:
mention of The Hold Steady playing Pitchfork -> dig up Hold Steady tunes -> end up on "Stuck Between Stations" -> catch Berryman reference -> now digging paperback of "The Dream Songs" out of mothballs

Man, I love John Berryman.

Lifting the cigarette to my mouth and inhaling/exhaling probably burns a couple of calories too.

I've been doing longneck curls. (lift bottle to mouth, drink, set bottle down, repeat...)

Speaking of cigarettes, a new bylaw went into effect on May 31 (don't know if it's just Toronto or province-wide, prolly the latter) that stores can't display cigarettes. If they want to sell 'em, they have to be stored on the shelves behind these drop-down cover things (that the city or province probably makes money on selling/installing). I know the health risks (and realize it's a vile habit...that I will try to break, after c__________ck), especially as Health Canada makes manufacturers add "warning" pics on the cigarette packs of black lungs and rotting teeth/gums, and such, so how is "hiding" cigarettes really going to deter anyone?

We are so uptight here, sometimes.
