The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms. Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information.

When Robert Duvall read "America is a love story." I commented, in true MST3K fashion, "With some action sequences." (of course wittily poking fun at the hysterical quasi-fascist military state and its many, many, many, many wars of aggression.).

Anyway, I do find it interesting that the film on YouTube is NOT the one that appeared on our television set:

The script was slightly different and the pace much slower. More importantly: the images were different. What I wanted to point out does not appear in this version.

The part at 1:39 with Reagan waving from the window and Duvall saying only "despair and success" was actually a glorious and much longer sequence where we heard the lines "in times of despair" (PICTURE OF CARS IN A LINE AT A GAS STATION) and "times of success" (picture of Reagan giving a thumbs up).

"Despair" is still paying less for oil than you should?
