saw it.  ehn.. not very good> Didn't hate it's guts or anything but neither did it connect with me very much. The action seemed SLOW  and it's hard to buy all these old people going through all this crap without at least breaking an ankle or two.  Seriously, John Hurt.  He's like 90. the best thing about it was the way it establishes itself in the 50's  which  seemed to tie the franchise  even more closely to classic  Americana.  If only Indy could've met Harrison Ford's character from American graffiti .
But immediately it falls into that  nebulous territory of 'when is this gonna feel like an Indiana Jones movie?'  And it DOES kinda get there. Just never all at once.
I might even dare say I liked this more than last Crusade but.... ... ...   the character of Indy just never becomes passionate  about anything that's happening to him.   pretty much the whole movie he's the one re-acting and  you never buy that his heart's in it.  and his relationship with Mutt is way more interesting before __________. After ________ they just give knowing nods to each other like,  "yeah, I can really see now that_______"

on the plus side

Shia Labouf brought it. He was good.

the ideas and the story are pretty good.

Cate Blanchett doesn't suck as bad as you'd think. In fact she's kinda hot.

BUT

the re-introduction of marion Ravenwood was not needed.

Also it seemed like maybe the film-makers were heavily influenced by peter jackson's king kong at times.    there's a uh, vine-swinging scene.

It looks like a golf course.

Maybe it was a golf course in the past.  There's a big park near my place (Parc Maisonneuve) which is a converted golf course.

Yeah! If you gotta abuse something, abuse your pets. That's what they're there for!

Yesterday I was downtown standing at the bus stop and I had Bikini Kill on the walkpod and was getting real into it and sorta nervously pogoing and then shuffling my feet to cover up what I was doing and then I was all like, Kathleen Hanna is godly and the bus took long enough that I eventually started thinking I wish I was a nineteen year old girl. Then I was all like, "Oh, if I was a nineteen year old girl, what I wouldn't to you" and then I was all like blushing and stuff and, well, the point is, I abused myself when I got home.

er...okay.

I love the fact that I work someplace where I can talk to an older co-worker and they hold the same opinion of the music on the radio as I, and for some of the same reasons. She said, "I am a musician, so it is even more difficult for me to block it out." and this is exactly what I have attempted to communicate to others (though I have never referred to myself as a musician, which sounds like a profession, and music is certainly not my forte). I do believe my playing an instrument has altered the way in which I process music...uh, I should probably go to sleep again before I drag this out any more.

In the meantime...

is this as soul crushing an experience for anyone else as it is for me? Does that sentence even make sense>?

It did not crush my soul, however, it did give me pause (yet again) to reflect on how easy it seems to entertain most of the people all of the time.  These are the same people who like Precious Moments, Thomas Kincaid, Holiday-themed apparel, glitter graphics, President Bush, Celine Dion, flavored Martinis, Desperate Housewives and Robin Williams.  I know this list is western-hemisphere-centric, but that clip proves these sorts of people are all over the planet.

Speaking of things that go vrrrrrroooooooooooooom, I forgot to set my alarm to get up early to watch the Monaco Grand Prix*. Managed to get downstairs just as Lewis Hamilton (my fave...everybody's fave) was crossing the finish line. So I almost saw the race.
