I use...

Apple Key + Shift + 4

The arrow becomes a crosshairs and you use it to drag and highlight what you want to capture and release (you hear a camera lens click).

Jeff, I hope you realise that, if you clean up and organise the boards now, it means that someone will have to periodically clean up and organise all our future posts, for ever and ever, amen...  Do you have a plan for this?  Is there something you can use to do it automatically?  Or will you do it as we post (i.e start a file at the beginning of every year and every month)?

There is apparently now a medium blue that shows up within a sub-board to show that its child boards have new posts. Bamah told me about it, but I misunderstood where she was saying it was. Then Matt showed it on a screen capture.

I can see how running into something new like that can be off-putting, but is it really that weird? It doesn't seem like a very big deal to me, but then, I build this place to y'all's whims and fancies as best I can, so if it confuses you, I can change it.

Keep in mind that as long as message boards have existed in the world, the prevailing sentiment on each is "don't change anything!"

It's inertia. We're all like that.

That's why I long since gave up asking what should come next and just started upgrading/reorganizing stuff as seemed necessary/interesting, benevolent-dictator style. Although it's sometimes weird while it's happening or until you get used to it, I try to make sure it works out in a way we can all enjoy in the end, and most times, I think I do okay.

All of the new organizational stuff is just intended to reflect the fact that, hey: we're five years old and probably not stopping this any time soon. So it seemed like we should break up some of the big unwieldy piles of stuff into smaller piles we could sort through better as time goes on. I really do think/hope that in the end, it will all be more fun and useful.

Also: everyone whose posts number enough to get the "Blue Hawaii" rating can now add/rename/move boards.^* You could already split and move topics. Between the two, you have what you need to help me reorganize. In particular, it'd be awesome if I could get some help moving old daily threads into year/month categories and also some help in chopping "Comix & such" into smaller topics.

Taking submissions now. so far, what we've done is use pop culture references that are more or less intuitively hierarchical. We need seven categories: six regular ones, starting with a sort of paean ranking and going up to the high one that most of you will have. And then a separate administrator category above that for well, me.
