what happen to capt's uplift (pinup) isle? Huh

(not that there's been any contributions in for ever..)

Was it time for the daily visit?

Many of the threads are missing right now, most years only have a couple of months listed.

Cap's pinup isles is right here. I haven't moved it or renamed it in any way. See how a moderately old topic like that becomes challenging to find when digging through endless unorganized lists? That's why I am redoing stuff.

No threads are missing. None. Seriously. I just haven't had time to move all 2000 or so daily threads into the new archive system yet. They still exist, in their entirety, in the fairly simply named category on the front page, Where the Old Topics Live. If anything, there are oodles and oodles more topics than there have ever been, as I have chopped up "Trailer Park," "Music Videos, "They Live," and a couple of other unwieldy threads into multiple smaller topics. Comix & Such will eventually get similar treatment, but it's 240+ pages, and while this  makes it clear why such reorganization is necessary, it also makes it time consuming. That one may take months. Y'all are welcome to help.

Similarly, the colors for boards with new posts/no new posts are the same as they have been since 2003. Our eyes can play tricks on us sometimes, though.

Nothing's really going to get that crazy. Everything that is changing should make things easier. Let's say Matt wants to remember a conversation on election night 2004. Instead of flipping through a couple of thousand pages of daily posts, he'll click on 2004, then November and find it among a few dozen topics there. Or let's say Tripp wants to recall a conversation about The New Frontier. Well, he won't have to flip through 240+ pages of "Comix & Such" now, he'll just scan through the topics for "Darwyn Cooke/The New Frontier."

Nothing is being deleted. And the only change to how daily threads work will be that they move from the main page to a month/year archive every couple of weeks.

It should all be worth it in the end. Be patient.  Wink

no, they're not! if i have unread topics on a child board (like if i haven't read comix and such)- on my main page, the box next to The Geek Isles is a medium tone of blue! i swear i'm not losing my mind! i had to go in and specially mark each topic as read 'cause it was throwing me.

That's actually what I meant by "missing" (ex. September 2008 is "missing" from the 2008 Child Boards) ...I was not implying they were gone.

I will be on the lookout for a mysterious third color of blue, but I didn't add one and haven't seen it myself in extensive testing. It is possible it came up because we are using child boards now though, so if you see three colors of blue, take a screen shot (there are a million simple programs that do this for free on download.com if you need one) and send it to me. keep in mind, though: we have always had two colors of blue on the front page to show where you do/don't have unread messages. Since 2003, even.

So, as best I can tell right now, what you're seeing is the same two color read/not-read scheme as ever. This is, admittedly, slightly complicated by the fact that I am splitting certain old topics (such as Comix) into multiple threads, some of which, since they were "just created" may temporarily show up as unread because, though you might have read the posts as part of "Comix & Such," the threads they have been split off into are "new." They shouldn't, and they're not doing it on my computer, but it's possible, I guess.

In the attached screenshot, there are just two colors of blue, just as it's been since 2003. If you see a screen at some point with three that are hard to distinguish, send me a screenshot and I can maybe edit the stylesheet to tell them apart more easily.

haven't heard it. I was shocked, though, shocked I tell you, to find out that I enjoy the hell out of the new Morrissey song.

Soooo...  I've never heard the meat puppets.  It's one of those bands I've read about, but I've never checked.  Any one familiar with their stuff?  Where should I start?

Jeff, I hope you realise that, if you clean up and organise the boards now, it means that someone will have to periodically clean up and organise all our future posts, for ever and ever, amen...  Do you have a plan for this?  Is there something you can use to do it automatically?  Or will you do it as we post (i.e start a file at the beginning of every year and every month)?

Hey Matt, how do you do screen captures on a Mac?

I use...

Apple Key + Shift + 4

The arrow becomes a crosshairs and you use it to drag and highlight what you want to capture and release (you hear a camera lens click).

The last thing.

this is the intermediate blue on the 2008 thread:

Ah, so not on the front page, but on the sub-page? Is that really confusing, or just something y'all aren't used to seeing? I can change the color.
