ummm,  those "generalizations" were right.and bill clinton has said virtually THE SAME THINGon MORE THAN ONE occasion.

i have been without a job for many months and damn near destitute and it didnt inspire me to buy a gun or go to church

this is the problem with "soundbites" on endless loops on cnn and whatnot. everything gets taken out of context.   what obama was saying, was that poor people are sick of politicians promising economic gains repeatedly and nothing ever changes. they are bitter because they don't believe it anymore.  so they no longer vote on issues like the economy and such because it's pointless. instead they vote on issues like gun control, and issues that deal with religious values, such as gay marriage, abortion, etc.  he wasn't saying, "these people are pissed so there's packing heat and praying."   but the funny thing is, even if he did mean it the way the media has spun it, it's still basically true.  example:  the most attended sunday in church in memory was the sunday after 9/11.  because people were pissed. and bitter.  and how many times have you heard religious people in bad times say things like "the lord is testing us. he will get us through.  pray on it." and that sort of thing.  turning to religion during hard times is not a secret. and as far as guns go, there is no question that crime rates rise and fall with unemployment rates.  when people are broke and bitter, they make poor decisions.  meanwhile, we have evidence that bush himself not only knew about, but AUTHORIZED torture, we are getting ready to go with iran, etc, etc, etc,  and this "bitter" thing is the only thing on the news.
