I think I may be the only one here who likes Firewater, and if I remember, those here who've met Tod A not only dislike his music but dislike him personally.

Still, they have a new record May 6 and are touring. Seems Tod A carried through on a "If Bush gets reelected, I'm leaving the country" threat. He's been in Thailand, India, Pakistan, Turkey and Indonesia and recorded the new record with a rotating cast of local musicians. It's streaming on their Myspace.

For what it's worth, I can look past obvious defects in Tod A's personality and some of the poncyness of his ambitions because I enjoy that he makes world music that is less "Embrace the rich tapestry of many cultures" than "I know a bar in Zagreb that's open all night... the gypsy band is good, the slivovitz is cheap, and the girls don't even care what your name is."

When I drank, I could do that easily. Apparently one of my god-given talents is being able to down massive quantities of liquid. I did some appalling things then. I remember getting angry at W___'s sister, who had come upstairs from the flat below to complain about the music we had on, and going back into the bedroom and cracking the seal on a liter of strong wine and downing it in one long 15 second swig. That is slowed dramatically by the wine straining through the narrow neck, bubbles firing up into the base of the raised bottle like with a liquid machine gun sound. With cups or glasses you can put back 40oz in milliseconds. ack...I just experienced one of those olfactory flashbacks to that piss vinegar red wine sediment. It was ghastly stuff.

Anywho, I am amazed at how dreadful a candidate John McCain is. That is not even his politics I of which I speak - I would sooner vote for George W. Bush than John McCain.

Bush is famous for ignoring the people, the world, his generals, etc., but he did listen to certain members of his cabinet. I have heard a few anecdotes which recall times when Bush brought his own ideas to the table, but from what I have read he really trusted (likely far too much) his father's friends. Still, it can be said that he listened to SOMEONE. McCain does not strike me as a listener, nor a man with patience or clarity of mind. Ignorant + angry = dangerous.

My father often remarks on McCain's appearance, saying that he looks like "broken goods" and "sickly". I agree; he has the appearance of a large tumor; with limbs plugged into a diseased sack of blotchy, rash-covered skin, draped over atrophied muscle and bone, tight, pulling against his stubby little fireplug body like the legs of a vacuum-sealed skinned rabbit.

He spoke in Memphis today.  He apologized for voting against the Martin Luther King national holiday back how many years ago.

Skip forward to about 1:30.  The crowd starts booing and he keeps repeating "I was wrong" in his sickly little voice.

Yeah, that was the clip I saw on television that reminded me of his little tumor body.

The clip I saw on CNN was from a different angle. The umbrellas were to prevent history from repeating itself?

I love how the establishment pretends to respect and admire Martin Luther King, when someone from it probably put him down on that slab. The press never mentions that the FBI had his hotel room bugged or that the FBI had been threatening him and that it has been disclosed that the FBI made threatening phone calls to Dr. King telling him to kill himself or that they would do it for him.

The media loves the "I Have A Dream" speech, because that was the speech he edited at the behest of the terrified establishment, saying that it would create an atmosphere of "intimidation" in Congress. He did their bidding (and was criticized by the more revolutionary, incendiary Malcolm X): they altered the march route, picked what placards could be carried and passed over his speech (the "dream" bit was brilliant improv not written in advance). For this he was betrayed by the government and again nothing changed. Eighteen days later those 4 Little Girls were exploded on the steps of 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham.

King was tolerated until 1968 when he began to do precisely what he was warned not to do in Washington: combine the class struggle, race and the war in Vietnam as inextricably connected crises that affected all Americans. I have a feeling that his is why he was finally "put down" in Memphis. He was assassinated before he could march on Washington again with broader revolutionary message not dissimilar from that of X. What MLK proposed was no idle threat: it would be the combined front/unity of every facet of societal upheaval that would imperil the following Nixon Administration, which was unsure that it could continue to expand the Vietnam War while fighting a second front on American soil; he actually needed more troops in order to quell civil unrest stateside.

Madness. I see those times coming again - Iraq, an Iran War still in the works, the Hispanic Civil Rights movement, worsening poverty...I feel we crossed the centerline back in the 1980s and we are regressing or devolving into early 1960s again...or deeper into the 1950s. The elites have successfully eroded most of the major gains in the last century, and it is only getting worse. Almost all unionism is gone, the pool of workers now spans the entire globe, driving down wages everywhere, civil rights are vanishing, the only well paid working class jobs are in the military, most everything has been deregulated and cloistered away from the masses again, the media consolidation, legal rights erased by Bush and Congress...things are real bad.

I'm back from the International Feminist Porn Awards. Except basically nobody was around this time to accept. No Tristan Taormino, no anything fun. Lots of good trans stuff, some fun clips, just no actual winners in attendance. Weird. (The first time I went, a couple years ago, it was all about Tristan and Candida Royalle and such.) Quiet crowd this time. Not so earnest (except for the wheelchair presenter and a gal with cerebral palsy who was one of the stage hands), just...quiet.

Oh, there were a couple good performances, I guess, including one amazingly hot striptease artist who did a very 1930s/40s kind of act (more hott than burlesque, less hott than the porn clips) with some woman ("Dainty Box"...oy) who was so hott, in fact, that Josey and I couldn't stop commenting on her ass.

Ok, so all in all, it was not so bad. But we left at the "intermission."

I've been drinking all week with Josey it stands to reason I'd be beat by Friday.  Roll Eyes

Ditto. I try not to be too hysterically paranoid or conspiracy-oriented, but...I agree.

We're thinking about trying to find jobs in Mexico. Dunno how serious we are about it just yet, but it's a new thing to consider. That's always exciting.
