Quote
Hey Folks,
If any of you are in the Memphis vacinity, Tim and Jim will be performing at the opening for a photography exhibit on Friday Feb. 27th downtown at a place called Butler Street Bazaar. Tim has also agreed to bring down some of his Polaroids to put up in the show.
I hope you'll be able to make it.
If anyone has questions they need answered feel free to email me and I'll get back to ya as soon as I can.
Cheers,
Mike
i lifted this from pastrysharp, and i have no idea who Mike might be so don't ask. he must be one of the members of the "creative class."
in more immediate news, i want to make sure everyone knows that tomorrow is BOY SCOUTS DAY, so get oot there and scout around for some boys.

oops, sooory. i should have added, for those of you unaware, that "Tim and Jim" = Rutili and Becker of Califone category.
it seems odd to me that february is the shortest month and yet it is loaded with DAYS: Groundhog Day, Boy Scouts Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Valentine's Day, Susan B. Anthony's Birthday, Presidents Day, Washington's Birthday, Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras), Ash Wednesday, and this year we also have Leap Day. and of course the entire month is devoted to Black History. i think there might be a greeting card/party store conspiracy behind this.

Wow. Great work, Caw. I hope everyone looks at Pat Carney's list of local landmarks. I hope you'll indulge me as I make some comments, as Pat's Top 10 makes me all misty-eyed inside:
Quote
3. The Flea Market - This is not a flea market it is really just a store in Barberton called the Flea Market. The name fits though cuz' it smells like cat piss and is basically broke junk found by the lunatic who lives in a car. (broken Atari 2600 - $25.00)
Barberton has an entire row of weird old junk shops run by weird old rednecks, not just "The Flea Market." Pat clearly has a love for Barberton (and who doesn't), but he neglected to mention that it is also the fried chicken capital of Ohio. My personal fave is "White House Chicken." It's owned by a pervert (allegedly) who has a freakish fetish with cleanliness. This restaurant is practically antiseptic and I literally would be willing to eat off of the floors. It has that warm, cozy feel of a hospital or a nursing home. Menu highlight: "Hot Sauce"...which actually is not "sauce" at all. It is, instead, simply rice that is only moderately spicy.

4. Dr. Bob - About 12 steps from my front door is the house where AA began. First weekend in june the town fills up with members (pretty haggard crew).
The annual AA anniversary meeting/biker rally is indeed a time to board up the windows. If these people are indeed the "recovering," I don't want to meet the sick.

5. Demeche's Bros - Demeche Bros. hamburgers in canton is world famous. After all they claim they invented the hamburger and ice-cream. (the burgers have the flavor of old world)
I believe he means Menches Bros. They claim to have invented hamburgers and the ice cream
cone[/]...as well as caramel coated peanuts & popcorn with a "prize." Tragically, they died before they could complete their next invention, "marketing." As a result, all of their ideas were stolen and they left their family with a 2 store "franchise" and a fistful of boastful claims. And that old world flavor Pat refers to is simply coffee grounds.

6. The Invention Hall Of Fame - Ever wonder who invented the laser that blew up the moon? find out who it was here. (answer: cobra commander)
I posted a little picture of the Inventors' Hall of Fame down below. My friend Ryan and I once projected the cult movie "The Atomic Cafe" on that big, uh, curved...wall. He was working on a series of photographs which involved playing movies in different public areas. We were there until about 2 in the morning. It's only a few blocks from the cop shop. They drove by several times, but never bothered us.

10. The giant tower - This building is located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and measures aprox. 250 ft. It is a concrete tower constructed in the late 20th century by tv evangelist Rex Hubbard. His original intention was to place a revolving Jesus themed restaurant on top so diners could eat and have a clear veiw of all the surrounding strip malls. Cool to look at, dude.
...and if Humbard would've finished that restaurant, this would be #1 easy.
Beautiful Ohio!

the Mike in question is Mike Brown. An excellent local photographer who also works at Shangri-La records these days.
AND he's the biggest Califone/RedRedmeat fan ever.

I watched some movies this weekend.
Lost in Tanslation and Capturing the Friedmans were both excellent.
American Splendor was also really good.
Hollywood Homicide was just fucking awful.
