despite being arguably the best known musician in the entire world, paul mccartney is grossly underrated as a bass player. the dude was (is?) amazing. not only did he come up with some of the coolest bass lines ever (rain is a good example, old brown shoe, taxman, the list goes on and on) but his improv ability was frickin nuts. the bass on i want you (she's so heavy) renders me useless for the entire duration of the song.
