Also: Kurt, you really interrupted my monologue. And I was so on a roll.

Did I miss something? Why are you handling construction materials??!
Also: thanks for the WFMU notice. I'll totally forget by
tomorrow
Tuesday, but good to know.

Tomorrow night is Josey's last "girls' night" whoop up at her place before she and the hubby move to the country permanently (i.e. their cottage, which they are winterizing) at the end of the month. End of an era for me... She gave me my first job in Toronto (in 2001), has been an invaluable source of advice (and fun), and, because she is such a tremendous hostess, has introduced me to a whole bunch of new gal pals (I'd mostly hung out with dude friends before) via these things (bad movie night, switch-and-bitch -- that is, clothing swap -- parties, etc). We've done small road trips, had debauched Pride days together, done innumerable fun things over the years, been there for each other for both the good and the bad/sad...
It's gonna suck for me because we can no longer just get together because we
feel
like it, and everything will now have to be planned -- she'll be a two-and-a-half hour drive away.
Happy for her moving toward something that makes her happy. Sad for me because I'm gonna miss the hell out of her, though I'm trying not to be selfish about all of it. The upside (and selfish) part is that I
LOVE
her cottage, so that means I get to spend more time up there, swimming and boating and, um, playing board games and drinking.

Oh yeah, my parents are having the upstairs bathroom redone. As it is right outside my door I have been unable to avoid inhaling all matter of nasty stuff, Concrete dust, glue, insulation, mildew, mold, open water drains, open toilet pipe, plaster dust, wood shavings, etc. Beside my desk is a stack of boxes filled with dusty new tiles. The worst part has been that neither my parents are in good enough shape to deal with the detritus and my father did not want to spend the $300 to rent a bin, so I have had to carry and organize every last bit of this stuff out to the curb. Stuff is so wickedly weighty that you can only fit so much in a garbage can before it is too much. Four garbage days already and I have only gotten rid of 2/5ths of it. Worst was dealing with it during the big dump. I also do all of the snow shoveling here...it was nice exercise at first but that last bunch was enough...the driveway is too long and the little inlet the house is tucked away in is routinely skipped over by the city plows, making it necessary for me to dig much of that out as well. So...my back feels shot (I was just out packing the cans in the slush an hour ago) and my throat is raw.
I CANNOT WAIT TO BIKE.
And I hope I snag that job...and knock on wood
and tally ho..

Yikes. Sounds brutal! Methinks the $300 woulda been well worth it. Ugh! Are you wearing a mask (like, times two) and such? Take care of yourself, man.

That is a sweet sentiment.
Sad, but also sweet. Losing any friend (permanently or to distance) is lousy, but that sounds particularly special in its own way.
But, you know...board games and drinking at a cottage...that's some fun shit right there.

I didn't wear a mask tonight and I think that may be why my lungs hurt. I misplaced it, but then thought it was wet enough out that it wouldn't be a problem.
(we don't have a very good "sick" smiley, do we? That hangover one is terrible...need to replace it, the white background looks crappy)

The other upside is that she's still alive.
I glanced at my myspace page today and noticed I never deleted my friend Tina (the one who passed away suddenly last November). I just can't bring myself to "get rid of her," even though her page is, I guess, useless to me (I have photos of her and I, and such, so don't need it for that). It's just too sad to delete her. But also sad to see her profile there.
