I Pauline Kael. Pedantic, sure. Elitist, maybe. But what critic who has ever lived has written such gems as "Star Wars is a box of Cracker Jacks that is all prizes." A perfect line--scathing and gushing and just what that film deserves.

Film critics should be pedantic and elitist.  They shouldn't be whorish hacks incapable of differentiating art from escapist trash.

Craptacular weekend. Worked straight through as the "on call" guy for my area, handling calls for 5 reps. 17 service calls came in. It was exhausting.

The good news is, as I said in the other thread, M______ got in just fine. We were worried about how the Romanian bureaucracy would react to her passport being in her maiden name and her travel docs being in her married name (under their laws they can refuse her passage to the US for that), but she got around the problem by lying and saying she was only going to Italy. (Which was where her connecting flight was.) They waved her through without hassling her.

So life is good.
