i want to see cloverfield. but i don't want to see the monster.  as bad as "signs" was, it became 5X as bad when you saw the aliens... the unknown is always scarier.

You gotta see it in the good THX theatre.

the name doesn't mean anything. I think it was the working title then they just said "hey that name's kinda grown on me! Let's just go with Cloverfield."  In the movie the army specifies the monster as "case designate: CLOVERFIELD" . Nobody ever says it in the movie.

I did see There Will Be Blood.

For the first hour or so, it's one of the greatest movies ever made.

It gets pretty batshit crazy and not everything makes sense or works, but it's a hell of an experience.

What happens after the first hour? Does it lives up to the first hour, or does it petter out or something?  Don't reveal the plot, please.

Well, I just think it derails a bit, but I still highly recommend.  The failures are relative to the greatness of the first half.  Some subplots rise up that I didn't think were as effective.  Paul Dano's religious character gets a bit irritating.  Craziness kind of overtakes the movie...which is probably the point.

The first half just had me riveted.

I want to see that. And There Will Be Blood, and 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.  But I have to wait for the DVDs to come out.  I have been on a movie binge: I watched Tarkovsky's Andrei Roublev yesterday, and to day I have Fassbinder's The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kamp and Quai des Orfévres, a french film noir from the late forties.
