We watched Comic Book;the Movie (directed by Mark Hammill) last night and I have to say we were all pleasantly surprised. I hadn't planned on ever watching it cause it looked horrible BUT it was pretty funny actually. More in the vein of Waiting for Guffman than anything else. I thought it was going to be more in the vein of UHF.
Mark Hammil basically plays the comic book guy from the Simpsons and is pretty darn hysterical whenever he's onscreen. But even funnier are Tom Kenny and his wife Jill uh..Kenny, and their real-life son.
And we didn't even realize until halfway thru the movie that some of the main characters are played by voice-actors. Most notably Billy West (Futurama, Ren & Stimpy).
It's not a fine film but has a lot of heart, sends up comic book nerds in a sweetly hilarious way and actually has a plot.
Flawed but worth checking out even if you're not a nerd.

And best of all a hilarious cameo by Bruce Campbell.

in rock news, i can honestly endorse the newly released C'mon DJ record by Mr. Airplane Man.  it is yet another triumph birthed in the big room at Easley McCain.

(portions of this email was borrowed from the Golden Globe winning show "The Office...reserve your copy of Season 2 on BBC america's web site...coming out 4/20...smoke em if you got them)

I went from estatic last night...."they're going to close work!" to depressed when i heard the plows at 2 a.m. "it stopped snowing...i'm going to have to go to work...to mildly happy "our work actually had a delayed opening...10am"

my wife is out now taking the kids sleigh riding. Damn, i should be there...i'm the master of the spinning saucer.

didn't they learn from that coupling fiasco? Why not just put the english one on a network? Is it the accents? The use of the word "cock?"

I find it hard to believe they used to play the young ones, monty python, and comic strip live on MTV. How did we as kids understand those accents? How did we decipher the strange british lingo (lifts, petrol, bottom burp, clever trousers, cod piece face)

I used to dig this "real life" top ten lists when they were on salon. always introduced me to something i never heard...and then they dissapeared.

So thanks caw for showing me that they still live somewhere.

Speaking of caw...on the way to work in the middle of a snow covered farm there was this black bird walking along through the deep snow.
