Boho/Alt is once again pretty much all Dave but it differed from most of our songs in that we never rehearsed it. Dave just popped it on us in the studio then literally told us to do whatever we wanted to it. I think Scott opted just to sing some but I went nuts with that bass part.
There was an old FX pedal at Easley's that they called the Ashtray because they used to use it for an ashtray. It turns out it was a Scrambler and apparently Hendrix used to use one. Doug and Davis kinda got it working again but it was a dicey affair using it. If anyone in the room moved it would crap out.
Anyhoo, I ran the bass thru that thing and sat in the control room listening to the song and just came up with my part right there. It was that wonderful rare occasion where the whole song fell into place in just a few hours.
Boho/Alt is a term John Floyd coined to describe the memphis scene at the time I believe.
Can't you see what a good book all of this would make?

the drum sound on Coat of Silence can be attributed to the sound production of Roy Berry.
I tend to get full credit for Coat of Silence but that's not accurate. really it's a Lamkins/Shouse. I wrote most of the music and that lyric in the chorus but Dave wrote the verse and the stuff about 'building bridges in an empty yard'. I never really cared for that song much. I liked some of my riffage but I wish it would've just been used in a better song. Dave's synth on that song is crappy sounding I think.
Empty Yard or Coat of Silence? "Empty Yard" is one my favourite cold acid songs...not sure why, but it really stuck. now I can't think of which is which...

"Red Hot and Bothered" - that's "Empty Yard".

And if memory serves, that was another song you were not thrilled about being TBS-ed out.

durr.. everything I said about Coat of Silence applies to Empty Yard.
except that Roy produced Coat of Silence.
and oh yeah, I guess I did write all the lyrics to Coat of Silence. So there's that.
COAT OF SILENCE = Lamkins/Berry
Roy gets a credit for the endless loop at the end..
EMPTY YARD = Lamkins/Shouse

That was the only thing I ever thought might make a good tattoo...not that any tattoo would ever fit me.

oh yeah. stream (steam? hot monkey version?) is another of my all time favorites.
and the bouncy bass line makes all the difference between what was a great song sketch (steam) to a brilliant rock'n'rolla. (stream)
and the verse from "steal a kiss" to "feeeeeeeeeeeeeeels rrriiiiiiiiiiiiggght!" gives me a boner every time.
(ok not really, but it's pretty damn good)
