re: little rock show

we had people scratching their heads a little bit I think. Based on the audience reaction to the band that followed us who were ehh, a fairly safe outfit. But they got all the white people to get up and do their white people dance. It was all fun. The only free beer we got was draft so we all felt like shit saturday morning. But yeah, we made some money, treated ourselves to a nice lunch, did a good show. I had one dude come up to me right after the set. He looked like Benjamin Franklin's hippie descendant. He told me I had a 'real style goin' on there'.

We have a good time traveling together. Trusty was pretty evenly matched with der grifters as far as touring goes so the ride over and the ride back we all traded tour stories. The ride back we pretty much just talked about vans and life in vans the whole way

they are comfortable sneakers. At least the kind I have. I prefer the cushiony kind over the canvas spiccoli type.

friday night.  duane hanson opening at the museum. lots of people.  beer and wine was consumed. afterwards the good ol handlebar was overrun with underage scenesters due to the popularity of a becoming-more-regular-than-should-be-allowed event called "psykick dancehall", so we moved on the the azalea.  a local watering-hole favorite reknowned for it's stiff drinks and smoke residue.  darts were thrown, rather inconsistently.  had to be back at the museum at 8 am. drove to new orleans in a 24 ft. ryder truck to pick up some artwork for a show that opens friday. (lin emery- look her up if yr interested).   stuck around to catch the drive-by truckers at tipitina's.    one of the better shows of my life.  jason isbell is no longer in the band.  john neff (athens based pedal steel badass, and former trucker) is back in the fold.  spooner oldham (aretha franklin, neil young, bob dylan, etc) was in tow rockin the wurlitzer.  and other than an occasional electric mandolin, and a brief telecaster cameo, it was an acoustic set.  everybody played sittin down.  except for about three songs, plus a few from the forthcoming 19-song opus, everything they played was from the first three records, (southern rock opera and before)  absolutely stunning.  could not have dreamed of a better set or better execution.  cooley played the banjo on several songs.   show started at 10.  we didn't get back to the car til 1:30, and there was no opener.  3 hours of amazing rock n roll.  and despite the acoustic treatment, it was as rockin as any show of theirs i've seem.  waxing nostalgia y'all. it felt like 99 again, but with a bigger crowd.  the new songs were amazing. a lot less pretense than the last couple records.  really looking forward to the new one.  long ride home with the big ole truck.  got in bed around 6 am.  sunday morn back at the museum to unload truck.  get done with enough time to lounge around a little before heading up to sluggos.   and the best part of the weekend?  i think that k__ and i are on the mend.  still workin slowly, but positive atoms are everywhere. so thanks to all y'all for your contributions in that department.  the new neil young record tomorrow should complete a pretty good weekend.   now, can somebody pay my mortgage??

sluggos just rented out the adjacent space to the current space.  former AA meeting place.  if those guys miss the old spot, i can make em feel right at home.  in the next week or so, mighty big changes.  we've got to make a archway between spaces, move the stage/soundboard/etc. expand the bar, add more tables, etc etc etc.  basically, we want to have enough seats at the restaurant so that the cost of the liquor license comes down dramatically, also, we have room for about 300 more bodies so we can draw bigger bands, comparable to the old sluggos locale.  should improve things alot over there.  what are we gonna have to do to get the likes of dragoon to make the trip? huh? lots o  weed? bud light? prostitutes?  pick yr poison.  help us break in the new digs. do it.  while the tour bug is up your ass.

highlight of my weekend...

Friend sends me a mix cd with some kick ass tunes, which I'm especially psyched by this tune by Hudson Bell, "The Falls".

Then I'm down in the basement, cleaning and listening to new cd when I see this album on the shelf that is totally out of place...like ontop of a stack of cds...i'm like "hmmm...I wonder".

So I grab album carefully, open it up...the old foldable album cover...and there in the middle is enough weed for a nice small bowl full.

Being out for a couple of weeks now I was 100% totally freaking stoked...smoked...toked.

Cleaning house...you just never know.
