fighting forever against everything

I have been rummaging through old papers casually for weeks now, but last night I started going through notebooks and discovered that October 12, 1996 was the first time Wendy and I really met and got to know each other. We had been introduced by a mutual 'friend', but it was when this mutual friend invited me to a party at Wendy's house that I actually got to speak to her at some length. I am quite certain she did not have anything for me, but I was enraptured. I was originally interested in the girl who had invited me, but I knew that was superficial and based on nothing. After inadvertently insulting her, we bonded over a shared love of Tom Waits and P.J. Harvey. She was the only person I had ever met who liked Tom Waits. After driving her to work the next morning, I returned to her place and borrowed some Siouxsie and the Banshees/Creatures albums which she had mentioned she loved (but did not think they were "cool") and left a note (everyone had crashed at her place - I did not break in after dropping her at work). She had told me the drummer was good and I was interested, but it was really just an excuse to remain in contact with this new girl I had met and was infatuated with. In just over two weeks we would become a couple.

That was eleven years ago today.

11 years ago I think I was probably on the last leg of the tour supporting Aint My Lookout.  Probably on the west coast.

11 years ago today, I had just driven a U-Haul up from Florida and was getting my apt in Queens together.  J____  had to hang back for a month, so when I say "getting the apt ready", what I mean is exploring all the nearby bars and playing guitar in my undeepants.

good times.

10 years ago I had  a job that was a two minute walk from my house. Used to go home at lunch and sleep.

yesterday we had to fill out this thing for our job review.
There was one part about how we think things are going and what we think the future holds...total crap. So i gave a total crap answer. We've been going through an integration and we are about to go through another one. It's totally sucked...but I didn't write that. I wrote:

"It's been and interesting and exciting year with the integration. I'm looking forward to the upcoming integration for the challenges and opportunites it will produce."

Send it to my boss and he calls me in his office. He's like "We're you serious about that stuff you wrote. Because alot of people are really unhappy with all this stuff"

I was like "yeah...100%. At first I was a little worried, but I figured it's going to happen so why not embrace it and make the best of it."

And he was like "I'm glad to hear it."

So now my plan is to be really optimistic and postive while I'm here and totally freak everyone out.

I gotta start by memorizing the corporate mission and just start quoting it during meetings and shit.

funny...i give people the thumbs up while driving instead of giving the finger. It works multiple ways...

normal idiot = "Way to go dumb ass"

psycho  = "It's all good man...so you almost killed me, we all make mistakes right"

the finger only has one meaning and if you end up giving it to the wrong person you could have end up with some crazy chasing you.

I was riding with a friend who got so flustered at a guy that cut her off, that she accidentally threw him a goat, instead of flipping him off.

I've taken that approach up.   Its like a hardcore thumbs up.
