Drink Globally, Act Locally.

That video was better than the Anchorman movie.

Here's a not-particularly-fun one. An interview with my sister about coping with kids and cancer.

Alrighty. Gots to go and re-join the brood now. Supposedly, they are "moving out" again on Thursday. We'll see...

Ganesha idol case: 5 arrested, bandh in major TN towns
Udhagamandalam, Sept 24: 5 persons were arrested in the wee hours on Monday for allegedly pelting stones on Ganesha idols during an immersion procession here in Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.

Tension prevailed in the city, popularly known as Ooty, last evening when stones and slippers were thrown allegedly from a nearby place of worship on Ganesha idols during a procession at Charring Cross, police said.

Five persons were arrested in this connection this morning, they said.

Meanwhile, several shops and commercial establishments today downed their shutters at various parts of the district in response to a bandh call given by the VHP in protest against the incident.

The bandh was observed in Ooty, Gudalur, Coonoor and Kothagiri, police said.

Nearly 25 VHP workers who were found forcing people to close their shops were taken into custody, police said, adding the situation was now under control.

This was Lord Ganesh's big day (I should note that we deliberately pronounce it "gah-nee-shah" instead of the proper "gah-nesh" or "gah-nesh-ah"), today with the final days of Ganesh Chaturthi

I wish I had remembered and visited the local temple again.

That is a whole lot of ganesh:

Hyderabad to bid adieu to Ganesh

T S Sudhir
Tuesday, September 25, 2007 (Hyderabad)
Hyderabad is another city outside Maharashtra where Ganesh festival is a huge affair. Through the 10-day festival nearly 30,000 idols are immersed in the city's Husainsagar Lake.

Exactly a month after the twin blasts, Hyderabad has come out to the Husainsagar Lake to bid adieu to the Elephant God.

The Ganesh festival has been low-key this year because Hyderabad has not been its usual exuberant self since the terror attack.

Tuesday is the day of the visarjan and also perhaps a day to pray for the souls of those who lost their life on August 25.

Close to 9,000 idols will be immersed in the lake through the day on Tuesday. The immersion will go on till very late in the night and it will be close to midnight when the largest of them all the 42 feet tall Khairatabad Ganesha will make his way to the lake.

Because of a warning from the Intelligence Bureau that there could be trouble, 26,000 police personnel are on duty all over the city on Tuesday to ensure nothing goes wrong.

For the first time, the entire procession is under electronic surveillance and video cameras have been put at strategic points. Movement of each and every vehicle carrying the idols is being monitored.

The city police told NDTV that anti-sabotage teams have checked every road leading to the lake over the last four days. Just about everything being taken care to ensure Hyderabad is 100 per cent safe.

The real reason we keep a low profile

Actually, I am truly hypersensitive about the issue. Cannot find the strength to divorce us from the name, but also hope that no one be offended.

I figure if I go Hindu it might lend some credibility to the name.
