I actually biked to the Wizard of Westmount's office today. 28 miles/44KM  (round trip)...except I forgot to eat a decent meal and I drank too much coffee before leaving. Also: heat/sun took a lot out of me and my arms and neck are tingling still. Also also: for the first time in my life I actually wished I had sunglasses - on the way home at 5PM the sun dropping in the West almost killed me on several occasions. To my surprise it turned out to be a very simple ride and it only took an hour. I only realized once I was there that I was only blocks from the downtown core. It is strange how disjointed one's perspective of a city is when your usual method of travel is public transportation and from there, foot. I only drove for about five years (1995-2000) before simply being to regularly drunk to be allowed near my parents' car ever again. In that time I rarely ever had the opportunity to drive downtown.

Sketchiest bit of the journey is that stretch from Montreal West through NDG to Westmount. Fucking cars.

Simon Schama's Power of Art, tonight on PBS..   10/ 9 central

Caught that one. Never really cared for Rembrandt before, but now that I know he was quite the iconoclast, I'm much more interested.

Schama was guest on The Colbert Report tonight. Nice high-/ low-culture moment.
