Comet Hale-Bopp (formally designated C/1995 O1) was probably the most widely observed comet of the twentieth century, and one of the brightest seen for many decades. It was visible to the naked eye for a record 18 months, twice as long as the previous record holder, the Great Comet of 1811.

Hale-Bopp was discovered on 23 July 1995 at a very large distance from the Sun, raising expectations that the comet could become very bright when it passed close to the Sun. Although comet brightnesses are very difficult to predict with any degree of accuracy, Hale-Bopp met or exceeded most predictions for its brightness when it passed perihelion on April 1, 1997. The comet was dubbed the Great Comet of 1997.

The passage of Hale-Bopp was notable also for inciting a degree of panic about comets not seen for decades. Rumours that the comet was being followed by an alien spacecraft gained remarkable currency, and inspired a mass suicide among followers of the Heaven's Gate cult.

So I got up at 7:45am to watch the F1 race with the roomie and a friend. I tried to nap afterwards but it didn't take.

It's such a beautiful day outside...I wish I had a bike so's I could ride off to the beach or something. That's a good solitary activity. The idea of walking around by myself, however, does not sound appealing, but alas, all my friends are busy. Bah.

I woke up at like 6:30 after a night of many coronas and went for a two hour bike ride...3/4 off road, 1/4 road...the thing is we live on top of a mountain...so like the first 1/2 the ride is flat or downhill...after going for a while and commiting to a route (old rail-trail that runs next to a river) I realized I had to go back up the mountain. torture.

But I caught the end of that F1 race...there was actually some racing in it...and it the rain! Not like them merican races where the slightest drop of rain and the race gets red flagged...bad boys of nascar my ass.

And then right after the race the guys who came in 1st and 2nd...alonso and some other foriegn named guys were having a heated arguement before they went out on the podium...it was freaking great!

Those F1 cars are freaking amazing...the sound...the handling...and you ever see the F1 groupies...they're like all supermodels...no scabby ass nascar hanger on with a beer can helmet and a fanny pack.

After seeing Sicko, S_ _ _ is suddenly on a mission to get us up to Canadia so we can eventually become Canadia citizens.

I'd prefer France, but Canada is probably more realistic - though probably not all that realistic.

The main worry would be employment. S_ _ _ has lots of training in early-childhood education. She could probably find a decent job. I, on the other hand, am probably qualified to wash dishes at some restaurant.
