Yesterday morning I was still all shagged out from this impromptu 2hr (8PM-10PM) bike ride I went on after hitting the library. My books on my back were not exactly desired passengers for a 38 KM bike ride, the second half of which was in pure darkness (the sun really starts to dive at 9PM, which when I reached Senneville, at the Northernmost tip of the West End of the Island, was a tad sketchy seeing as there are no street lights for about two miles in the woods (and the wealthiest neighbourhood in the West Island - which is relatively easy seeing as a massive chunk of the village of fewer than 400 homes is ginormous waterfront estates built above old farm land tucked away where no one can see them (there is no reason to ride along the old Senneville road or L'Anse a L'Orme (a 2.2 mile long building and crossroad-free country road that runs along a small river (stream) from just above the Transcanada to Chemain Senneville at the 'top' of the island of Montreal unless you are

A) on a bike ride
B) actually live in one of three dozen estates along that stretch
C) are too drunk to drive home from any of the frat bars in Sainte Anne de Bellevue (home of my former John Abbott College) along the highway or Lakeshore Road where the police await

I was dodging bats (literally!) as I headed South toward Sainte-Anne's ...and complicating matters (and at the same time pumping me up and out) was the fact that I had on the Rock-a-Teens and then Modest Mouse and then Trans Am very, very loud (CD walkman).

Anyway, it was quite a little trip, and I felt quite confident afterwards, as I really had not planned it. I've got to start biking regularly, even if it is lonely.

Of course, it's the old thing about being lonely in a crowd and quite content when alone - I tend to feel terrible when I am around people I do not know, and so I tend to 'work at night' when I have the world to myself. I also like being with those I feel close to. Being with people I "sort of" know is almost as painful as being amongst strangers, and, in some ways, worse. I am contemplating day trips down to Old Montreal - the standard bike route along Lakeshore and then along the Lachine Canal to the port (48 KM round trip, 60 KM .if I was to continue to bike to rest/drop by my sister's...or Dan's).

I would also like to bike around Île Bizard again sometime this summer.
The ride around the island is only 16KM, but including the ride there, the trip is about 28KM.

I just want something I can start doing regularly. I should get to the bike shop today to have my bike 'tuned' now that I broke it in.

figure i'd start the new topic and bring your post in since a nice bike ride story is almost as good as a nice bike ride...

I'm afraid to bike while listening to music...afraid i'll get hit by a car...and i mostly bike in the woods!

for the past two days i've wanted to ride in the morning and just went back to bed. I really want to go...but lack the early morning motivation*

sounds like a great ride. I used to love riding down in Jersey city, Union City and Hoboken when I lived down there...there's just something about being next to NYC and finding a little spot on the hudson where noone is by you.

I love to bike...I don't know why people jog....i guess it's better excersise...but you ever see a happy jogger...they all look miserable...biking is so fun...can be thrilling, dangerous, or relaxing when you're actually cruising without pedaling...riding down a nice hill.

and sure fun to do baked!

We live right across the way from the University of memphis and I always start my bike rides by doing a lap or two around the campus. I've actually mapped out a pretty fun race track that even includes a dangerous water trap.

well, it's just riding through a fountain but at certain times of day it does the unpredictable squirty thing.

kinda like my ass.

Do you ever stop to "get your Friz on"* with some coeds

*I cannot see a frisbee without thinking of that episode of the office when they go to college and Michael gets his friz on with some students...cracks me up.

No,   I was already gone.

I actually didn't hear a peep about it until this morning.  I kinda curled into a little bitch-drink cocoon as soon as I got home.
