i realized that saying 'happy monday' might have seemed like a band reference, and i didn't mean it that way.  i can honestly say that i've only heard of the happy mondays, never heard them, so i don't know if they are worth referring to or not.   just saying, i wasn't.  i am a bit groggy as well.  but for totally different reasons...

Speaking of bands on Monday...finally downloaded a Bloc Party album (Silent Alarm)...and..well..it ain't doing nothing for me. What am I missing? Some elements are vaguely, mildly (very mild) interesting, but really it just bores me to death. While there is some pop, the rhythm section is extrememly weak and features no interesting dynamics whatsoever. Weaker than the Futureheads, stronger than Franz Ferdinand (altough Franz Ferdinand has at least two catchy singles and I can at least understand how they got big).

Is the second album any better?

actually of those three bands I like the Futureheads the best. But yeah, they're all mining the exact same territory.

I also kinda liked Interpol. What're they doing?

apparently Dave is playing keyboards for this guy.  Is he poised to be the next hot shit from memphis? maybe. he's got an all-star backing band.

I still do not understand why the Futureheads are not more popular than both bands...do they receive any play ANYWHERE? Because Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party both received massive hype here and enjoy considerable airtime...I never even hear Futureheads mentioned, yet I noticed a good sized display at HMV last time I was there. I have no idea how popular they are. When I do mention them to other people, no one has ever heard of them.

Is it a poor choice of singles? These are not there best songs, but they ain't bad.

Not a single:

Possibly my favourite song...recording is a tad rough (live handicam footage from beside the monitors)

so K__ and i have our end 'o' summer  vacation pretty much planned out.......

August 11-19

we are going to rent a mini-rv.  i'm gonna have to get some kind of gas card before then, cause it's gonna be expensive as shit.......

saturday, august 11.  wake up early as shit and head towards mempho.  people get ready.  kim, we should get there in time for happy hour on the porch. actually we should arrive about 1-2.  i'm gonna do the obligatory record shoppin.  K__'ll probably want to check out some thrift stores.  suggestions??  alcohol should soon follow.  entertainment of some sort.  bamah up for some karaoke? tripp?    i'll bring the shrimp.....maybe someone other than chris isaak will be playing that weekend...
sunday, august 12.  after a bbq lunch,(i ain't leaving memphis without some pulled pork in my belly)  we pull out and head for Cedar Point in sandusky, ohio.  we should arrive about 11 pm.  wake up early and ride roller coasters all motherfuckin day.  (anybody else want to go? meet us there? it's gonna be awesome.  check out the virtual rides here.)  camp on lake erie.
monday, august 13.  see above.
tuesday, august 14. drive through detroit, say hi to k__'s folks on our way around the lake to niagara falls. we find a campground there and hang out.  maybe find a local bar.
wednesday, august 15.  do all the touristy shit at the falls..  ride the boat that goes into the mist.  go through the tunnels underneath.  look for superman.  kneel  before zod.  get on the road.  take turns sleeping.
thursday, august 16.  take our time heading south.  highway, not interstate.  check out all the cool shit along the way.  mountains and stuff.
friday, august 17.  meet our friends from cookeville, tn in north carolina to camp/go whitewater rafting.  haven't totally decided on a locale yet. this could happen friday or saturday.  not totally sure.
saturday/sunday aug 18-19.  depending on time, we may stop in atl to see some friends. it's on the way home anyway.  arrive back in p'cola sometime sunday night exhausted and broke.  i can't wait.....

Yeah, from what I've heard of 'em I much prefer, Interpol, as well. I thought they had a new one coming out or something.
