So I got the new Wilco yesterday. Listened to the first few songs on the way back to work...first impression...it was o.k...nothing really rocking. Next couple of tunes on the way home from work (funny because at my last job I could of listened to the cd like twice on the way home from work...now i get to hear like 3 songs). Again, nothing really great. Then I listened once again at home from the beginning and the first few songs I started to dig more. Most of the tunes have that "company in my back" feel.
Listened to the rest on the way to work this morning. Gets a bit more rocking, but nothing like "monday" or other summerteeth stuff.
The best way to put it is it's a CD I can put on at home and my wife will dig it. It's got a little Let it Be feel to it.
Is Wilco considered "Indie rock"...because if so I'd call this Adult contempory Indie rock.

Saw 28 Weeks Later last night.
ehn. pretty good. Not better than the first by a long shot but still a decent sequel. Everyone complains about the last act of the first movie when they get stuck in the military camp. I liked that actually. I thought it wasn't somuch a movie about rage zombies as it was about what you do when society falls apart. You run and run, you band together with people you think you can trust then you find some kind of aid station or some police or something.
the sequel starts off great and has a lot of good creepy suspense and it doesn't do a lot of cheap tricks and if you like over the top gore you'll love it. But a lot of times you just can't tell what's happening. There are a lot of moments that are truly horrific in concept but the execution is just a disjointed series of images and flashing lights.
The original has moments of levity and it shows the characters being human. This one falls more into the school of "this characters going to die because they are deficient in some way". Usually because they act cowardly.
And there are also a lot of (deserved) jabs at the American military being an incompetent and unfeeling entity. Though they don't explore that in any meaningful way. it's mainly there to set up another obstacle for the people running for their lives.
2.5 stars.

i saw like the first 28 minutes of 28 days later. I loved it...but it was library copy and was skipping. I'm waiting for it to come on one of the free movie channels on our cable.
That was during my "end of the world" period I was going through. Read Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" (before it became an oprah book thingee)...highly reccommend. Read like 1/2 of World War Z...by Mel brooks kid, same who wrote Zombie survival guide...it was o.k...it's supposed to be eye witness accounts of the zombie wars. And watched Children of Men...which I loved.

yeah bamah. it's a rage virus. duh. i hate rage. preaching communism while signing million dollar deals with sony records, signing on to million dollar lollapalooza tours, printing pictures of che with your moniker and well placed red stars on tshirts, totebags, fidel hats, coffee mugs, etc. ugh. rage is the machine. speaking of, word is they are going to "re-unite" for bonnaroo this year. for like a hundred thousand dollars. communism at its finest. what the hell are the hippies thinking? i can't think of anything i would want to see/hear less when i was tripping my face off.

by the way, i really liked the first movie. i thought it was a good twist on the old zombie thing. and it was smart way to have "zombies" and also account for the fact that they were super-aggressive speedy motherfuckers, which traditional zombies could never be. something dawn of the dead and other Nu-Zombie flicks have not really addressed.

i think they did reunite at the cochella festival.
Hey did you see my morning jacket when you were at the bonooroo...I saw a clip from that with them and they seemed to bring the rock during a thunderstorm and they were just jamming the hell out of it.

I love the scene in Shaun of the Dead where he wakes up all hungover and doesn't notice the zombies walking around him.
