Saw Hot Fuzz last night.  ehn.
Not as good as Shaun of the Dead but still pretty funny.
If you really love buddy-cop movies like Lethal Weapon you'll probably enjoy it more than I did. Looks like Simon Pegg and co. are just having a lot of fun playing cops and robbers. And there's nothing wrong with that. But Shaun of the Dead moves moves moves and this one kinda sits there. It makes you think something is happening by showing mundane actions being performed with explosive force. Seriously, you have never seen anyone pay for a nutty buddy quite as loudly as it's done in Hot Fuzz.
I laughed out loud many times and even had a few good belly laughs. But like I said it feels like they were playing.

Did I say he was bald? (I was going to make a comment that he is balder is person) He usually mentions his hair.

yeah.  remember that time you said  "JESUS CHRIST IS DAN EVER BALD!!" ?

no not really.   when i made the "neilyoung alanismorrisette paulshafferville"  comment a while back, you joked that you must be neil young, because karen would go down on you in the theatre, and dan was bald.  there have been several bald comments since. (possibly before??)

i was really just trying to call dan bald and somehow blame it on you.  it's more fun that way, and it helps me not feel like such a jerk.

and dan knows he's a good lookin man with a good lookin girl, so i'm sure he knows i was joking, and didn't take offense.  (if you did, dan,  sorry about that.)

dinosaur jr. "beyond"  initial thoughts....

good set of songs.  not weighed down with some of the overproduction (strings, misplaced falsetto harmonies, etc.) that may have tarnished albums like 'where you been' and 'hand it over'.  incredibly fluid guitar throughout (obviously), and murph is definately behind the kit. (not that j is a bad drummer- he's actually quite good- but other than maybe dan peters of mudhoney, murph is my favorite post-moon drummer).  all that being said, there is really not much new here.  and that's not saying it's not worth buying.  it TOTALLY is.  but for the most part, any of these songs could have found themselves on any of j's records from green mind to present.  and that's not a bad thing.  there are 2 exceptions.  "It's Me" and "Lightningbulbs".  which happen to be my 2 favorites on the record. They both sound totally fresh. and ironically (or not?) they also happen to be the only songs that sound as if they could have been on any of the first 3 dinosaur records.  On "It's Me", they really capture that super spacious, noisy sound that was a trademark of "you're living all over me" and  really has been missing since.  "Lightningbulbs" (lou singing)  is a bit reminescent of songs like "forget the swan" from the first record, but maybe it's just the vocals.   regardless,  those two songs are fucking great.

summary:  if you were ever a fan,  buy it.  if you weren't, this one won't change your mind.    8/10

Of course I took offence!  What, do you think I would waste the opportunity?

Duel at dawn, your choice of weapons.  Unless, of course, I receive an abject apology.  Matt, will you be my second?
