ne manges pas poisson, matthew?

( is that close?)

No more (it used to be a major staple of mine because I have not eaten land animals for some time). An old post:

yeah, so I finally got 'round to the allergist...

and it mostly turned oot just like I thought it would: arthropods bad, molluscs okay.

On a 0-4 scale (zero being no reaction, 4 being a very high reaction), I scored:

Shrimp: 4
Crab: 3
Lobster: 3
Scallops: 2
Salmon: 2
Tuna: 1
Halibut: 1
All Other Fish: 0
Anchovies: 0
Octopus: 0
Squid: 0
Snails: 0
Oysters: 0
Clams: 0
Mussels: 0
etc.

I didn't foresee having the also common chordate allergies (tuna, salmon). You add this up and I have Sea Food Allergies, not just Shellfish Allergies.

I have been steering clear of all of the shellfish (the ones I scored high on in particular), but I have eaten squid, octopus (and related icky denizens of the sea) from time to time, since I first started having reactions, with no problem. Still, it's not something I ate a lot of. Tuna however, I eat every second day…Salmon two or three times a month. The MD said I was clear on the cephalopods (da squidies), and could get away with the chordates (da fish) as long as I didn't feel any reaction…but that I absolutely must steer clear of the shelled creatures: shrimp, lobster, crab…including the clams, oysters, mussels, snails (stuff I only ever ate while drinking with W_ _ _ _, anyway).

So, this means benadryl on hand, as well as a costly epipen…possibly a Medic Alert bracelet (probably not)…

I think this is the end of fish for me…I was looking for an excuse…this may as well be it.

With dairy & meat already cut from my diet…this will make me a genuine vegan (gasp!).

I am not actually a vegan it turns out. Milk finds it way into my diet in small quantities on occasion - I cannot go without a little bit of yoghurt with my Indian food (I use it to put out the fires started by the other condiments). The Lebanese guys tend to blast my meal with milky sauce [cough] without asking...and I roll with it. If I drank a glass of milk or eat pizza with a full dose of cheese I will be ill. I am not sure if it is that  natural lactose intolerance we all share (in that, biologically speaking, adults should not be drinking breast milk (i.e. baby food)...especially of another animal species), or that I am actually lactose intolerant...or I am simply unaccustomed to it now.

Too much soy milk in my coffee tends to make me a tad queasy...so it might be in my head.

And Duane Hanson always freaked me out.

i always imagined that dropping acid at a showing of his might be exciting/terrible idea.

?

connect the dots for me as I'm still not awake.

we are getting a duane hanson show at the museum.  i'm sure you've seen his stuff before, if you're not familiar with the name.  there's a linky on today's page two.  just above the boob.

Blinded by a lack of Playtex.

and what do you mean by "a load of laughs"?

It is a poor translation of "loadé avec des rires"

What do you think Baby's in Black is about? Is she mourning the loss of her boyfriend in a war? Why is she dressed in black?

WASHINGTON - Terror detainees once held in the CIA's secret prisons were kept and questioned under highly abusive conditions, the International Committee of the Red Cross says in a confidential report based on interviews with high-value terror suspects.

It took the Red Cross to figure that out? Who didn't know about that already?
